Gear Aid BALTA Hatchet

I had my apprehensions about this hatchet at first due to the size and thin blade edge but I’ve put it to work on my last two solo trips and it puts in the work. On my last trip I was using it with a baton to split some wood and the hammer head became loose. That’s the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5. I’ve reset them with some permanent locktite and will see if that remedies the issue. Either way, if you’re wanting a versatile little tool, I’m impressed with this one. I wouldn’t have bought it due to my initial thoughts about it being too thin to be durable but it was in one of my mission boxes and I’m pleased to have it now. I may buy a couple more for gifts now.
